A partner said, "You're such a good worker.
Hiring you was one of the smartest moves we ever made!" He
didn't realize that I was an temporary employee.
An "I'm better than you" type of attorney beat me out
of a parking spot only to discover 10 minutes later that I was his
temp for the day.
It was very hot and the elevator was crowded. I got sick and
threw up on the client's shoes.
I was on a trial support team. Two of us typed day and night in
a hotel room for five days. The room was filed with computers,
printers, copiers, exhibits and food. It was a great adrenaline
rush to be that close to the action.
One day I wore the same suit as my attorney. She was with a
client when I first saw her and I didn't know what to do. When
she saw me she smiled and said, "Great suit, let's see your
shoes!"
I was in Fashion Island on a very windy day. My
arms were full of files. As I got to the entrance of the
building, a big gust of wind blew my dress over my head.
I relayed my worst temp experience to an attorney only to find out
that I was talking about his daughter!
I'll never forget the day I told an attorney I would be happy to take
him to the airport and then couldn't get my car started.
An
attorney had pictures of two girlfriends in one frame. Each time
one of them came into the office, I had to make sure the right picture
was showing.
On the last day of a three-month assignment, both attorneys took me to
lunch and thanked me for a job well done.
My favorite assignment was working for a sole practitioner whose
office had a deck facing the bay. I enjoyed the ocean breeze and
watched sailboats as I worked.
I had worked hard all week on an exciting project. On Friday,
the firm asked if I was available on the weekend. I said,
"Yes." They said, "Pack a bag!" The
attorney, his client and I flew to New York in the client's private
jet. I typed contracts all the way. When we got to New
York, I attended a high-powered meeting and took notes. It was
great fun. I felt very important.
